What 6 months of QA interviews taught me
The Stack reader, Julia, shared a great post on the Mockly blog: What 6 months of QA interviews taught me
We recommend reading the full post - but if you’re short on time, a quick summary.
Her job search in numbers:
52 applications sent
9 first-round invites
26 interview calls in total
2 final rounds reached
1 offer received
Key lessons:
Referrals are extremely valuable, most first-round interviews came through her network, not cold applications.
Cultural fit > technical skills. Julia lost a final round to a cultural-fit task, and realised at senior level, technical ability is assumed. What companies are really deciding is how well you align with the team.
Track everything! With multiple interview processes running at the same time, a simple spreadsheet and notes after each interview kept her focused.
