The #1 mistake that gets tech CVs rejected

Most companies use software to scan CVs before a recruiter sees them. It's called an ATS — Applicant Tracking System.

If your CV isn't formatted correctly, it can be rejected before a recruiter ever sees it.

ATS will probably reject your CV if it:

  • was made in a design tool (e.g. Canva, Figma)

  • uses columns, text boxes, or complex layouts

  • includes icons or graphics (e.g. star ratings for skills)

Your CV should be a plain document (Word, Google Docs, or LaTeX) with clean text, standard headings, and bullet points.

This is one of 10 common mistakes we've found on international tech CVs.
